About SLVCORE

Hello! Welcome to the SLVCORE website.

SLVCORE formed in 2006 when neighbors were informed about a 60-unit high density housing project on the Felton Meadow, a pristine wetland and endangered species habitat decidedly outside of the urban services line. Concerned when a county-funded environmental group sided with the developer, a large group of valley locals organized and successfully halted the housing project.

We dealt with unsavory politics in the process. The developer created a compliant astroturf advocacy group which magically appeared just in time to testify at Supervisor/RDA/planning hearings then vanished the day the county cut off funding.

Ultimately, community support for rural and environmental preservation withstood the dirty politics.  With support from authentic environmental groups such as the Sierra Club, local environmental engineers and water professionals, insiders in county government, and 4000 local residents, SLVCORE was able to halt the housing project.

CORE continues to monitor environmental issues in our rural valley and the towns of Felton, Ben Lomond, Brookdale and Boulder Creek.

Stay tuned!
